In a bid to promote fair and ethical journalism, the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) Programme has launched a specialized media toolkit to enhance electoral reporting across the country.
Titled Doing Civic and Voter Education: A Toolkit for Community Radio Professionals in Nigeria, the resource is designed to equip community radio practitioners with essential skills to ensure balanced and inclusive coverage. It particularly focuses on empowering marginalized groups—including women, youth, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)—by amplifying their voices in democratic discourse.
Beyond voter education, the toolkit provides strategies to counter misinformation and hate speech, reinforcing the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process. The EU-SDGN initiative also supports media literacy and fact-checking mechanisms, enabling journalists and the public to discern credible information and foster informed civic participation.
By championing responsible reporting, this initiative aims to create a more inclusive and transparent electoral landscape in Nigeria.
