Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, the Grammy-nominated Afrobeat trailblazer, is gearing up to drop his eleventh studio album titled Journey Through Life on April 25, 2025. The forthcoming project reflects both a personal and political odyssey rooted in rhythm and resistance—a musical legacy passed down from his father, the legendary Fela Kuti.
Three singles from the album have already set the tone: “Politics Don Expose Dem,” “After 24 Years,” and “Oga Doctor,” each laced with Femi’s signature blend of hard-hitting lyrics and energetic instrumentation. These songs preview what fans can expect across all ten tracks—a fearless confrontation of societal decay, corruption, and injustice through horn-driven arrangements and Afrobeat cadences.
For Femi, Journey Through Life is more than just music—it’s a manifesto. “This album is about documenting our pain and power. It’s about legacy and truth,” he says. “It carries the same fire my father lit years ago, but with today’s urgency.”
Since his 1989 debut No Cause for Alarm, Femi has carved a path uniquely his, fusing Afrobeat with jazz, funk, and traditional Nigerian influences. Albums like Shoki Shoki, Day by Day, and Stop the Hate have not only garnered global acclaim but positioned him as a torchbearer for conscious music in Africa.
Known for his electrifying stage presence and mastery of the saxophone, Femi’s musical rebellion is matched by his global reach. From performing alongside Coldplay and Common to leading his band, Positive Force, Femi has remained fiercely authentic while introducing Afrobeat to global ears.
Journey Through Life promises a fresh yet familiar sound—fierce, funky, and full of meaning. From the biting satire of “Corruption Na Stealing” to the introspective “Think My People Think,” Femi weaves storytelling with activism, groove with grit.
The official album listening party is slated for April 27 at the iconic New Afrika Shrine in Lagos—a fitting venue for a body of work born of legacy and struggle. It will be an intimate gathering of media and special guests, a moment to sit with the music, hear the truth, and move to its beat.
