The draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has placed Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Group C, alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. The announcement was made on Monday night at the Mohamed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco.
With an illustrious history in African football, the Super Eagles bring a formidable record to the tournament, boasting 16 medals from 20 AFCON appearances, including championship victories in 1980, 1994, and 2013. Known for their attacking prowess and squad depth, Nigeria is widely regarded as one of the tournament’s favourites.
Under the guidance of new head coach Eric Chelle, the team will face a series of challenging group-stage encounters that will test their preparedness and determination. Despite the competition, Nigeria’s pedigree and experience position them as strong contenders to lead Group C and advance deep into the tournament.
The full group stage draw includes:
- Group A: Morocco, Mali, Zambia, Comoros
- Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe
- Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania
- Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana
- Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan
- Group F: Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique
The tournament will be hosted by Morocco, returning as a host nation for the first time since 1988. Scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, this AFCON edition will mark a historic shift as the first to span two calendar years. Morocco, renowned for its exceptional football infrastructure, is poised to deliver a world-class event.
