
Nigeria has lost one of its foremost elder statesmen as the national leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, passed away at the age of 96.
According to a statement released by his family, the nonagenarian breathed his last peacefully on Friday morning at his Lekki residence in Lagos State.
“With a heart full of gratitude for a selfless life spent in the service of God, the nation, and humanity, we announce the passing on of our beloved patriarch, Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo,” the family’s statement read.
Describing Pa Adebanjo as a nationalist, lawyer, and unwavering advocate for true federalism, the family emphasized his lifelong commitment to the pursuit of justice, equity, and national unity.
Pa Adebanjo is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family revealed that condolence registers have been opened at his Lagos residence in Lekki Phase 1 and his country home in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State.
