Nafisa Umar Hassan, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Katsina State, has been honored with a traditional chieftaincy title for her outstanding contribution to community development in Kaita Local Government Area.
The District Head of Kaita, Alhaji Yazid AbdulKarim, conferred the title of Sarauniyar Yan Yiwa Kasa Hidima A Kasar Kaita 1 (Queen of Corps Members in Kaita 1) upon Nafisa during the inauguration of a solar-powered borehole she initiated and completed as part of her Community Development Service (CDS) project.
Driven by the lack of adequate potable water in the community and its associated health risks, Nafisa embarked on the borehole project to provide clean and reliable water to the people of Kaita. Speaking at the inauguration, she described the initiative as a heartfelt contribution to her host community.
“This borehole represents my modest effort to address one of the pressing challenges faced by the community where I serve. I am deeply grateful to God for enabling me to accomplish this project with the support of the local residents. My appreciation also goes to the NYSC for providing a platform that empowers us to make meaningful impacts,” Nafisa remarked.
The NYSC Katsina State Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Sa’idu, commended Nafisa for her exemplary service. Represented by the Head of CDS, Samaila Suleiman, Sa’idu lauded her for addressing a critical need in the community, noting that the scheme remains committed to promoting excellence across its programs.
During the ceremony, the District Head adorned Nafisa with a ceremonial turban, praising her as an exceptional role model among her peers. He highlighted her dedication to improving the lives of the people in Kaita, describing her as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
Beyond the borehole project, Nafisa has continued to demonstrate her commitment to community upliftment. She recently donated 100 school uniforms to pupils at Batagarawa Model Primary School and empowered 20 women in the Katsina metropolis by providing them with broiler chickens, bags of feed, and essential medication.
With registration number KT/24A/1178, Nafisa Umar Hassan exemplifies the ideals of service, leaving a legacy of impact and setting a high standard for community-driven initiatives under the NYSC scheme.
