Renowned Nigerian dancer, choreographer, and convener of the Ikate Community Peace Festival, Alex Kuti, has underscored the critical role of cultural exchange in fostering peace, understanding, and international cooperation.
Speaking ahead of the much-anticipated second edition of the Ikate Community Peace Festival, Kuti highlighted the power of cultural dialogue in breaking barriers and uniting communities.
When we share our traditions and values, we foster mutual respect and build bridges of understanding,” he remarked, assuring that this year’s festival will be bigger, more inclusive, and richer in cultural offerings. Following the success of its maiden edition in 2022, the festival aims to further its mission of promoting unity, celebrating diversity, and providing a platform for artists and cultural enthusiasts.
Set to take place on June 25 at Ola Ogun Playground, Surulere, Lagos, the festival will feature diverse performances, exhibitions, food fairs, peace-building workshops, and community initiatives. It is an extension of Kuti’s broader efforts under the NTIFAFA Africa Peaceful Co-Existence Cultural Exchange program, which previously hosted a landmark event in Lomé, Togo, drawing participants from various African nations.
“The cultural exhibitions, panel discussions, and interactive sessions are a testament to Africa’s rich heritage. By promoting cultural exchange, we lay the groundwork for deeper understanding and cooperation across nations,” Kuti emphasized.
As cultural diplomacy gains global recognition as a tool for peace and economic development, Kuti remains committed to leveraging artistic expression to create lasting bonds among African nations and beyond.
