The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has granted provisional licenses for the establishment of 11 new private universities across Nigeria, further expanding the nation’s higher education landscape.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the approval following Monday’s cabinet meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He emphasized that these institutions had successfully navigated the rigorous accreditation process set by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Although a moratorium had been placed on the approval of new private universities, Dr. Alausa clarified that these institutions had reached an advanced stage in their registration before the restriction was introduced.
