In a groundbreaking initiative to foster unity among Nigeria’s security forces, the maiden edition of the Armed Forces, Police, and Paramilitary International Band Festival (AFOPPIBAF) is set to take place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2025.
The festival, which aims to promote harmony and collaboration among the country’s security agencies, was officially announced during a press conference in Abuja by Mr. Justin Duru, the Director-General of AFOPPIBAF.
With the theme, “Togetherness: Unity in Diversity, Our Strength,” the event is envisioned as a platform to enhance synergy, celebrate cultural diversity, and highlight the role of regimental music in national cohesion. Duru emphasized the significance of the festival in uniting military, police, and paramilitary bands while showcasing their creativity and dedication to national service.
Regimental and ceremonial music play a crucial role in national, social, and international events. The festival will serve as a grand showcase of musical excellence, featuring competitive performances, cultural displays, and creative presentations by the bands.
Among the planned activities are a regimental music colloquium, street parades, marching band competitions, cultural exhibitions, and a drumline festival. The event will also pay tribute to past and present leaders of the military, police, and paramilitary institutions.
Duru revealed that the festival is inspired by the legendary song “Togetherness” by late Nigerian music icon Sonny Okosun, reinforcing the core message of unity and national strength. The initiative is being coordinated by the African Caribbean Network Foundation (ACNF) in partnership with AfroNem Linx, Klaymann and Gremann, alongside security agencies, including the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, and Paramilitary bands.
Expected to grace the historic occasion are distinguished military and paramilitary leaders, heads of security agencies, and key stakeholders in the arts and cultural sectors. The festival promises to be a landmark event, strengthening camaraderie among Nigeria’s security agencies and promoting music as a tool for national integration.
