Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised the alarm over Nigeria’s deteriorating state, declaring that the country is on the brink of collapse if urgent steps are not taken.
Speaking passionately during the Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi painted a bleak picture of life under the current administration, citing growing poverty and economic distress across the nation.
“We must not remain silent when the nation is bleeding,” he said. “The signs are everywhere—Nigerians are poorer today than they were yesterday. The indices are glaring.”
Obi called on party faithful to remain steadfast and united, emphasizing that the Labour Party must lead with integrity, inclusivity, and competence as it prepares for future elections.
“This party must not be about Peter Obi—it must be a collective vision. We must field candidates who are not only loyal but also deeply committed to the Labour Party’s ideals. No more transactional politics; we must correct the errors of the past,” he stated.
Encouraging party members not to be intimidated by political forces, Obi said the time has come for Nigerians to stand up and demand better governance, while reiterating the Labour Party’s mission to present the most qualified and visionary candidates at all levels in the next election cycle.
