
Nigerian technology entrepreneur Stanley Anigbogu has been named the 2025 Commonwealth Young Person of the Year for his groundbreaking work in sustainable energy. The founder and CEO of LightEd, Anigbogu has developed solar-powered solutions using recycled waste, providing clean energy access to over 10,000 refugees across Africa.
Anigbogu was selected from 20 finalists at the Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work, held in London. His work is driven by a deep personal connection to energy poverty, an issue he experienced growing up. Through LightEd, he has trained 6,000 students and recycled over 20,000 kilograms of waste, merging environmental conservation with technological innovation.

During the award ceremony at Marlborough House, Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland commended Anigbogu for his dual impact on energy sustainability and environmental protection. She highlighted his contributions to job creation and climate resilience, describing him as a “visionary revolutionary.”
Expressing his gratitude, Anigbogu reaffirmed his commitment to expanding sustainable energy solutions and empowering young change-makers.
