Renowned comedian and Nollywood actor Okey Bakassi has voiced strong concerns over Nigeria’s political climate, warning that the increasing recklessness of political leaders could lead to a military coup if not addressed.
In a conversation with fellow actor Ime Bishop Umoh, Bakassi expressed frustration over the growing arrogance of politicians, noting that many of them act like deities, silencing critics through intimidation and arrests. He pointed out that despite Nigeria being a democracy, citizens face suppression for speaking against the government.

Referring to President Bola Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, Bakassi cautioned that unchecked political impunity could have dire consequences. “Politicians are now behaving like gods. They think they are untouchable. If you speak against them, they will arrest you,” he lamented.
His remarks reflect a broader concern about shrinking civic space and the growing intolerance of dissent in Nigeria’s political landscape. As political tensions rise, his warning serves as a reminder of history’s lessons—unchecked power and widespread dissatisfaction can lead to unintended consequences.
