
Tansian University, Umunya, has once again received generous support from former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who donated N10 million to the university’s College of Nursing at Oba.
During his visit, Obi underscored the fundamental role of education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation in Nigeria’s progress. He stressed that nations with remarkable development strides have prioritized human capital investment through quality education. Calling on Nigerian leaders to channel greater focus into these sectors, he described education as the most effective tool for breaking the poverty cycle.
Presenting the cheque, Obi lauded Tansian University’s unwavering commitment to training healthcare professionals. He noted that a robust healthcare sector is anchored on well-equipped institutions capable of producing skilled professionals who will contribute meaningfully to society.
Addressing students, Obi encouraged them to remain diligent and purposeful in their academic pursuits, asserting that a well-educated population forms the backbone of a stable and prosperous society.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eugene Nwadialor, in his welcome remarks, expressed profound gratitude for Obi’s continuous support, recalling his previous N100 million donation to the institution. He hailed Obi as a true advocate for education whose philanthropy has significantly transformed the university.
“Your generosity goes beyond immediate relief; it is an investment in a brighter future for countless young Nigerians,” Prof. Nwadialor remarked.

The Vice-Chancellor also used the occasion to draw attention to the plight of 38 nursing students who were left stranded following the demise of Monsignor Johnbosco Akam, who had sponsored their education. He passionately appealed for Obi’s intervention to enable them to complete their studies.
Additionally, Prof. Nwadialor extended an invitation to Obi, requesting him to be the Special Guest of Honour at the university’s upcoming convocation ceremony on March 29, 2025. He expressed confidence that Obi’s presence would add great value to the event and inspire the students.
The event was attended by faculty, students, and dignitaries who commended Obi’s enduring investment in education. Many lauded his unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and national development, acknowledging that his contributions have positively impacted numerous lives.
