
For the first time, The Man Died, a gripping film adaptation inspired by the prison memoirs of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, will be screened in Southern Africa. The film is set to feature at the prestigious 7th Jo’Burg International Film Festival.
Running from March 11 to 16, the festival will host two exclusive screenings of The Man Died. The first takes place today, March 12, at Theatre on the Square, Sandton City, at 8 PM, followed by a second showing on Saturday, March 15, at Nu Metro Cinema in Hyde Park at 1 PM.

Beyond its Southern African premiere, the film will also be showcased at the African Film Festival in Atlanta, USA, an event dedicated to amplifying African and Diaspora stories through film and the arts. These international screenings follow the movie’s recent appearances at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles and Nollywood in Hollywood.
Directed by Awam Amkpa and produced by Femi Odugbemi under Zuri 24 Media, The Man Died features a stellar cast, including Wale Ojo, Sam Dede, Norbert Young, Ropo Ewenla, and Kelechi Udegbe. The film has garnered critical acclaim, winning Best African Film That Tackles an Important African Issue at the 14th Luxor African Film Festival in Egypt. It also secured Best Screenplay awards at both the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos and the 35th Carthage International Film Festival in Tunis, as well as the Best Audience Choice Award at the Eastern Nigeria International Film Festival (ENIFF) in Enugu.

Upcoming international screenings include the African and African Diaspora Film Festival in Costa Rica, the 32nd New York African Film Festival (NYAFF32), the African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) in Chicago and Washington, DC, and the African Theatre Association Conference 2025 in Stuttgart, Germany.
