Nigerian activist and outspoken social commentator, Martin Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has taken his online influence beyond the digital space by mobilising his Ratel Movement for a nationwide community service initiative.
In a viral video released on his Facebook page on Wednesday, VDM announced that beginning Saturday, November 29, 2025, the movement will embark on monthly community sanitation exercises across the country.
He explained that the drive is designed to confront Nigeria’s worsening environmental challenges while also instilling a renewed sense of patriotism among young people.
“From November 29, the Ratel Movement is taking over Nigeria. We are shutting down the country — not with violence, but with impact,” he declared.
The programme, according to him, will involve activities such as cleaning streets and public spaces, clearing clogged drainages, and rehabilitating basic infrastructure in schools and local communities.
VDM described the effort as a shift from online activism to tangible civic responsibility, emphasising that his followers will now match their strong presence on social media with direct contributions to national development.
“We are starting what has never been seen before in Nigeria,” he said. “The Ratels are stepping out of the virtual space to show up in real life and transform their society.”
