Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has attributed the foundation of her successful music career to her early years as a child chorister. In a recent interview with Amazing Jazzy, the ‘Rush’ hitmaker reflected on how singing in her church’s children’s choir at the age of 10 helped her discover her talent and refine her vocal skills.
“I loved being in the choir. I was like the loudest child,” Starr recalled. “It was the kids’ choir actually, and everybody was little. It was the first time I discovered that I could sing. It really helped me shape my voice and music.”
The singer, who has gained international recognition for her distinctive voice and vibrant style, emphasized how the choir provided a nurturing environment for her passion for music, ultimately guiding her path into the industry.
