The Ekiti State Government has partnered with Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort to elevate the production and international visibility of Adire Ekiti, the state’s signature hand-dyed fabric, known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns.
On March 4, 2024, First Lady Olayemi Oyebanji unveiled the Adire Ekiti Hub, a local empowerment initiative designed to train and equip unemployed youths and widows with Adire-making skills. Sponsored by Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, in collaboration with the Nike Okundaye Art Foundation, the program’s inaugural batch of 200 trainees was drawn from the state’s central district.
The government sealed its partnership with the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort during Mrs. Oyebanji’s visit to the facility, where she championed the integration of Adire into the state’s tourism appeal. “Adire Ekiti is more than fabric—it’s our identity and cultural pride. Visitors to Ekiti should experience this artistry firsthand,” she said.
Describing the resort as “world-class,” she commended its chairman, John Olajide, for his commitment to boosting tourism. Olajide emphasized that the collaboration would promote job creation and economic growth while showcasing Ekiti’s cultural wealth to a global audience.
The initiative has already yielded significant outcomes, as many graduates from the first training cycle have launched businesses with startup kits provided by the hub. “We’ve taken youths off the streets, given them a livelihood, and stemmed capital flight by encouraging local patronage,” Mrs. Oyebanji added.
She urged new trainees to seize the opportunity, master the craft, and contribute to the state’s cultural and economic development, underscoring the administration’s dedication to heritage preservation and youth empowerment.
