Renowned virologist and former Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, has urged the Nigerian government to accelerate the implementation of its economic reforms to ease the growing hardship in the country.
Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television, Tomori cautioned that Nigerians’ patience is running out as they continue to endure the economic impact of petrol subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification—policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration nearly two years ago.

“We must not just think about the immediate but also the long term,” Tomori remarked. “Where are these economic policies leading us? Will they make things better? If so, then we need to be patient. However, there’s a time limit to patience.”
While acknowledging the government’s efforts, he stressed that citizens must begin to see tangible improvements in their daily lives.
“There are glimpses of progress, and we should encourage those. But telling Nigerians to ‘be patient’ over and over again is not enough. The government must listen—people need to see real, positive change,” he warned.
Tomori also highlighted security and electricity as critical areas that require urgent attention to create a conducive environment for economic recovery and national stability.

He further challenged state governments to step up and play a more active role in improving the living conditions of their citizens, rather than relying solely on federal interventions.
As economic hardships persist, Tomori’s remarks reflect a growing sentiment among Nigerians: reforms must start yielding results, and soon.
