Popular Nigerian comedian and human rights advocate, Adebowale Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has expressed outrage over the reported prolonged detention of 15 domestic workers allegedly linked to former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.
The workers, reportedly held at the Okaka Custodial Centre in Bayelsa State since 2019, are being detained in connection with missing jewellery and have yet to be convicted in court.

Reacting to the news, Mr Macaroni described the incident as a grave injustice. “These men and women have been locked up for over five years without a court conviction,” he wrote in a post shared on his social media platforms. “Does Madam Patience Jonathan even remember that they are still in prison?”
The entertainer called on Nigerians to speak up against what he termed an abuse of power by the influential elite. “We must stand against this pattern of abuse that allows the wealthy to imprison others simply because they lack the voice or resources to fight back,” he said.

He reiterated that under the law, every citizen is presumed innocent until proven guilty, stressing that prolonged incarceration without trial is a blatant violation of their fundamental rights.
The original report, published by Sahara Reporters, highlights the harrowing conditions of the affected workers, who claim to be enduring hardship, neglect, and even torture behind bars, with little hope of justice in sight.
