
Osun State added another feather to its cultural cap with the commissioning of a new Nike Art Gallery in Akoda-Ede, a project that promises to deepen Nigeria’s artistic heritage and boost local tourism.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who officiated the opening, honoured Adenike Ogundayo with the title “Queen of Adire,” recognizing her remarkable contributions to the promotion of indigenous textile art and culture. He lauded her enduring impact in promoting Adire both within Nigeria and on the global stage.
The gallery’s unveiling was a celebration of African art, featuring a vibrant showcase of textiles, paintings, and symbolic crafts that underscore the richness of indigenous creativity. The event drew art lovers, cultural custodians, and dignitaries, all of whom witnessed a spectacular exhibition of traditional expression.
During the event, Governor Adeleke announced the upcoming Adire Osun Carnival, a creative festival aimed at revitalizing the state’s cultural economy. According to him, the carnival will serve as a dynamic platform for artists and entrepreneurs, with potential to attract international attention and stimulate economic activity across Osun State.
The governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to harnessing arts and culture as powerful tools for development and tourism, positioning Osun as a creative hub in Nigeria and West Africa.
