Prominent lawyer Deji Adeyanju has characterized gospel singer Mercy Chinwo’s defamation lawsuit against social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, as baseless and frivolous.
A Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, recently issued a bench warrant for the arrest of VeryDarkMan after he failed to appear in response to a court summons over alleged criminal defamation against Chinwo. The singer is also pursuing a separate civil lawsuit in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeking N1.1 billion in damages over alleged defamatory remarks concerning a financial dispute with her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (Eezee Tee).
Speaking in an interview with AIT, Adeyanju ridiculed the lawsuit, saying, “Pay N1.1 billion for what? Over what? I don’t want to discuss this matter outside the courtroom, but it’s nothing serious… It’s a joke. A complete joke.”
Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan, who is currently out of the country, has challenged authorities to arrest him upon his return, emphasizing his familiarity with such legal encounters.
